About the Author
Hi! I'm Emily Paull and I am a writer of
short fiction and historical fiction from Perth, Western Australia. I am also a qualified librarian and book reviewer. When I am not writing, I can often be found with my nose in a book.
My short fiction has appeared in
journals such as Westerly, as well as in the anthologies, Joiner Bay and Other Stories, Shibboleth and
Other Stories, We'll Stand in that Place and Other Stories (Margaret River Press, WA) and [Re]Sisters (For Books’ Sake, UK). In 2014 I was a Young Writer in Residence at the Katharine
Susannah Prichard Writers Centre.
In 2019 I was lucky enough to have my work published as a collection, called Well-Behaved Women. The publisher, Margaret River Press, has since ceased operation, and the book is now out of print but I am immensely grateful to the team at MRP for giving me a fantastic first publishing experience.
In 2021, my manuscript 'The Good Daughter' was Highly Commended in the Fremantle Press Fogarty Literary Award.
I tried my hand at this award again in 2023 with a manuscript called 'The Dreamers' and was fortunate enough to be one of six shortlisted writers. As a result of this, the amazing folks at Fremantle Press agreed to publish the book, and I am happy to announce that The Distance Between Dreams will be available in March 2025!
I like to think I know a lot about books...A former bookseller, I
was twice nominated for the ABIA Young Bookseller of the Year Award. I now specialise in a branch of librarianship known as Reader's Advisory -- which is the art of finding somone the right book at the right time! I won the 2021 F A Sharr Award at the Library Board Awards in WA for my work in this area.
I am a regular moderator at the Perth
